About ABWLC
PURPOSE:
The Akron Chapter of the Ohio Black Women’s Leadership Caucus
was formed in 1972 as a non-profit, non-political organization. The
purpose of OBWLC is to work toward unification for the
enhancement and identification of leadership abilities of all black
women concerned with the issues of everyday living.
OBJECTIVES:
The objectives of OBWLC
(1) motivate black women who have an interest in understanding
public issues and to encourage their involvement in the same;
(2) conduct personal awareness and leadership sessions that will
provide opportunities for black women to express themselves in terms
of ambitions and desires.
WHO WE ARE:
The Akron Chapter of Ohio Black Women’s Leadership Caucus, Inc. is
a community service organization. We are a sisterhood comprised of
women with diverse educational and occupational backgrounds. We are
black women from all walks of life. Collectively, we encompass a wide
strata ranging from professional career women to professional
homemakers. We are mothers, grandmothers, sisters and aunts. We are a
sisterhood who share the common goal of supporting and addressing the
needs of each other as well as all of our sisters. We understand that
networking with all our sisters, through the sharing of information,
skills and knowledge is the vital tools that will help us achieve our
common goals.
WHAT WE DO:
ABWLC sponsors a number of community services and
activities, which benefit the Akron community. Some of our major
programs include:
Salute to Significant African American Males
Breakfast
Black History Tribute
Minority Scholarship Program
Salute to Black Women Luncheon
Leadership Workshops
Youth Organization
Voter Education/Registration
Information Forums
Further, ABWLC provides assistance and financial
support to numerous community and national organizations
